About Lucky Ducky Designs
OK, so do you have one of those things that you don’t really remember learning how to do, it just seems as if you have always done it? Well for me, that was sewing. I do remember in Jr. high home-ec class when everyone else was making a skirt with an elastic waist, I made a full 3-piece ensemble that I actually wore. Then my first job in high school was working in a fabric store. So maybe it was inevitable, but in a round-about way. I made most of my own clothes in college. Then I graduated and didn’t need to make my clothes anymore, nor did I have the time, so the sewing didn’t happen for a while. After I got married and we bought our first house, the urge returned and I made a lot of things for the house as well as discovering my love of quilting. It wasn’t until the arrival of our daughter in 2003, that the true inspiration came. Throw in staying at home, but still having the desire to do something more than the most wonderful job of being mom. That’s when the business was born.
I truly have a love of fabric. The feel of it, the colors, the patterns, the way it looks so great in one big piece, but is screaming to be made into so many different things. OK, so maybe I’m an addict, but hopefully my fabric addiction leads to your happiness with our products.
Oh, and to answer the big question – what's with the name? When I first started considering a business, I was also doing t-shirt quilts, so I wanted a name that didn’t only apply to baby items. It literally took months, but one day I was folding my daughters shirt that had the cutest little spotted pink dog on the front. “Pink Dog”, “Spotted Dog”... “Lucky Dog” and the rest is history. Of course it helps having the cutest dog in the world, but I may be biased. Once the business was going, we had a lot of people expecting dog products from us, so a change was in order. Lucky Ducky Designs just seemed to be the perfect fit. Whether a dog or ducky, I consider myself very lucky to be doing something I love.
